Hitting the road with your pet this summer? Here are our picks for the 10 essentials to consider when traveling with your pet!

1. Grab A Pet First Aid Kit: You never know what situation you might find yourself in while out-and-about with Fido. Want to make one yourself? Here's an example of what to include in a Pet First Aid Kit (provided by the ASPCA):

2. Travel Food & Water Bowls: From Collapsible bowls to nifty food storage containers, these can come in super handy while on the road!

3. Safety Seats and Carriers: You wear your seat belt, right? Well, so should your pet! Keeping them contained to prevent roaming around the car keeps them (and you, and everyone else on the street) safe.  Check out this soft-carrier from Temple and Webster

4. Do Your Research:  Locate vet hospitals (and know their phone number and hours of operation) in the area you're heading to before you travel. In an emergency, this will save you lots of precious time.

7. Get Up-To-Date: Your vet will able to provide you with a copy of vaccination records before you travel. Consider placing all records in a zip-lock bag to keep them safe and dry! Also, make sure your pet is current on all vaccinations, deworming, and parasite prevention as different areas of the country have different problematic pests. Check out our blog post on tick prevention.

8. Pheromones Are (Your Pets') Friends. These are natural substances that have a calming-effect on your pet and can be extremely helpful through stressful situations such as travel. We recommend spraying cat carriers with Feliway and dog crates with Adaptil prior to transport.

9. Familiar Smells: Dogs and cats are comforted by familiar smells.Consider packing a blanket or t-shirt that smells like you or the home. JWqceCx.jpg

10. Consider A Pet Sitter or Boarding Facility. While you may have the travel-bug, some pets are just not up for traveling. In this case, hire an experienced pet-sitter so your pet can enjoy the comfort of their home while you travel the globe!

Pet Au Pair is a Sydney-based pet-sitting company founded by a highly experienced, registered vet nurse!

Additionally, Cat Boarding at Potts Point Vet Hospital is top-notch, offering large play-areas and sunlight condos for your feline friend to enjoy! cattery4-1.png
